This race was widely aired on television in Mexico. There was much speculation that newcomer Juan Pablo Montoya, a road course expert and former Formula 1 driver, would win the race. He did, but he did so by spinning out teammate and polesitter Scott Pruett, causing plenty of questions about Montoya’s driving style. It was the first race won by a non-American (Montoya is Colombian) since 2001 saw Canadian Ron Fellows in victory lane. |
